Triggered SMS campaigns enable you to automatically send personalized messages to users based on their behavior. For example: Remind users of items they left in the cart, notify them that a product they viewed is now available at a lower price, or use any other event as a trigger.
Before you create your first campaign...
Make sure you have completed all the steps that are listed in the Getting Started with Triggered SMS article.
Create a triggered SMS campaign
- Go to Triggered Messages › Campaigns and click Create Campaign.
- On the Select Trigger page, select the trigger for your campaign.

Each trigger is relevant to a different use case, and includes different settings. Trigger types include:
Cart AbandonmentSend messages to users who added items to their cart, but did not complete a purchase.
- Trigger: The message is triggered when a user adds a product to the cart. You can limit it to trigger only for products with a specific property.
- Delay Send: The message is sent to the user after this defined amount of time passes.
- Cancel Send: Set an action that causes the message to not be sent. By default, cart abandonment messages are canceled if the user makes a purchase or visits the site again.
- Frequency Capping: Limit how many messages to send in a given timeframe.
Product View AbandonmentSend messages to users who viewed at least one product page, but didn't add any items to the cart or make a purchase.
- Trigger: The message is triggered when a user views a product page. You can set it to trigger only products with a specific property.
- Delay Send: The message is sent to the user after this defined amount of time passes.
- Cancel Send: Set an action that causes the message to not be sent. By default, product view abandonment messages are canceled if the user makes a purchase (any product, not necessarily the products they initially viewed) or adds an item to the cart (any product).
- Frequency Capping: Limit how many messages to send in a given timeframe.
Category View AbandonmentSend messages to users who viewed a category page, but did not view a product, add one to the cart, purchase a product, or return to the site.
- Trigger: This message is triggered when a user adds a product to the cart. You can limit it to be triggered only if products with a specific property are added to the cart.
- Delay Send: The message is sent to the user after this defined amount of time passes.
- Cancel Send: Set an action that causes the message to not be sent. By default, category view abandonment messages are canceled if the user views a product, adds a product to the cart, makes a purchase, or visits the site again.
- Frequency Capping: Limit how many messages to send in a given timeframe.
Price DropSend messages to users to let them know that a product they viewed or added is now priced lower.
- Trigger: By default, this message is sent when any product price drops by 10%, to all users who viewed it in the past 30 days. You can limit it to products with a specific property, or send it only to users who added the product to the cart. You can change the 10% to any other percentage or any other monetary value (say, $100 lower).
- Schedule: The message is sent at the time closest to the trigger within this time window.
- Frequency Capping: Limit how many messages to send in a given timeframe.
CustomSend message to users who perform a specific behavior, like viewing a product, making a purchase, or any other event.
- Trigger: The action that a user needs to do for the message to be sent to them. It can be a single event, or it can be a list of multiple events (for example, user signup or login).
- Delay Send: The message is sent to the user after this defined amount of time passes.
- Cancel Send: Set an action that causes the message to not be sent. It can be a single event, or it can be a list of multiple events.
- Frequency Capping: Limit how many messages to send in a given timeframe.
- Click Next to continue to Targeting. You can target this campaign to all users, or you can target it only to users who belong to a specific audience or a shared audience.
We recommend starting with a test audience to verify the flow on your website. - Click Next to create a new variation.
- Enter the text to send in the message. You can insert dynamic product properties into the text using the format ${Variable Name}, for example: ${productURL}.
The referenced product is determined according to the trigger type, as follows:- Cart abandonment: The last product in the cart
- Product view abandonment: The last product viewed
- Price drop: The last product viewed by the visitor that had a price drop
- Custom: The last product viewed
- Preview your variation by clicking the preview icon and then entering your phone number.
You will receive the campaign message on your phone. - Save the variation, and repeat as necessary. When you're done creating variations, save the experience.
