New Privacy/Storage Measures Interfering with Recently Viewed Strategies in EU Markets
Are privacy measures in EU markets interfering with the Recently Viewed algorithm for recommendations? We are seeing an increase in the fallback strategies running and wondering if changes to data storage may be inhibiting the tracking.

Hey Lauren-
Thanks for the question!
If a user opts out of tracking, per GDPR, we should no longer track them.
A possible response to this is to fire an event or cookie on those who opt out and create an audience for them.
Then, segment the recommendation experiences to those who opt-in with personalized recs (Recently Viewed, User Affinity, etc.), and those who opt-out (most popular if on HP; most popular in category on PLP; viewed together/similarity/bought together on PDP).However, a possible workaround to all of this is a hybrid/server-side approach - so no cookieing would be required.
