Change in Product Attribute campaigns notify users when an attribute of a product they previously interacted with has changed. These messages aim to re-engage users by offering timely and relevant discounts, informing them about products returning to stock, or supporting any other use case that can help increase conversion.
Trigger logic
Trigger conditions
A Change in Product Attribute campaign is triggered when both of the following conditions are met:
- The user interacts with a product by adding it to the cart.
- The relevant product attribute changes. The attribute is configured as follows:
- Select the attribute you want to track in the Product property dropdown in the campaign settings.
- Define the change to track.
- If the attribute is a string, set the changed from and to values.
- If the attribute is a number, set the increase or decrease value.
If the selected attribute is “price”, the decrease can be defined as either a percentage or a fixed currency amount.
Note: Support for date values is planned for later this year.
Additional rules:
- After the interaction occurs, Dynamic Yield tracks the product attribute for relevant changes once per day, for 30 days.
- Each time the user re-engages with a product, the 30-day tracking period resets.
Schedule
- Messages are sent during the next available scheduled window after a product attribute change occurs.
- You can define the days of the week when messages are allowed to be sent.
Send to
- Messages are sent only to users who meet the campaign trigger conditions.
- Audience filters can be applied during campaign setup (for example, targeting only registered users or loyalty members).
Don’t send if (cancel conditions)
You can define an exit condition that cancels any remaining defined steps in the campaign for a user (for example: select Products Purchased to stop sending messages after the user buys the product).
Important: Cart state tracking
Change in Product Attribute campaigns rely on accurate cart tracking. Make sure to implement the following events:
- Add to Cart
- Remove from Cart
- Sync Cart (optional, but highly recommended)
This ensures that Dynamic Yield can monitor which products are in a user’s cart and track their attributes.
Message content configuration
Change in Product Attribute campaigns support the following message variable types:
- Changed product
Use variables to render metadata from the product feed for the changed product that triggered the campaign, such as:- Product name
- Image
- Category or brand
- Any data from the product feed for this product
Include multiple variable slots to display multiple products with relevant attribute changes.
If there are fewer products than slots, the extra variables remain empty.
- Recommendation blocks
- You can include recommendation strategies configured with Reconnect App as the page type.
- Contextual strategies return recommendations based on items in the cart or viewed items.
- User Data
- You can use any field from the User Data feed to personalize the message.
For example: The user’s name, loyalty tier, or recent activity.
- You can use any field from the User Data feed to personalize the message.
Best practices
- Define a clear schedule that aligns with expected user activity (for example, weekdays only).
FAQs
Q: How long are products tracked after user interaction?
A: Products are tracked for 30 days from the last qualifying interaction (add to cart).
Q: Can I customize the exit conditions?
A: Yes! You can select any session-action that the user potentially performs as an exit condition (such as purchase, views product, starts new session).
Q: Can a user receive multiple Change in Product Attribute messages for different products?
A: Yes. Multiple products can be tracked, and any change in the defined attribute within the 30-day period can trigger a message.
If multiple products meet campaign conditions at the same time, they can be included in a single message using multiple variable slots. So a user might receive one message with several products, or multiple messages for attribute changes that occur at different times.
Q: What happens if the campaign includes more variables than there are qualifying products?
A: Extra variables are left empty.
