Post-Click experiences enables you to personalize the on-site experience for users who return to your website after clicking a message in their Reconnect journey.
Reconnect journeys help bring users back to your website through personalized messages delivered across channels such as email, SMS, and push notifications. By default, however, users return to the standard website experience.
With Post-Click experiences, you can extend personalization beyond the click by creating targeted website experiences that align with the message the user received.
For example, if a user clicks an abandoned cart email, you can display a personalized banner, overlay, recommendation strategy, or other on-site experience that reinforces the abandoned cart message and guides the user toward conversion.
Notes:
- To use Post-Click experiences in Reconnect, the Dynamic Yield script must be implemented on your website.
- Post-Click experiences are available only for web experiences, not app experiences.
How the Post-Click experience works
When a user clicks a message from a Reconnect campaign, Dynamic Yield identifies the interaction and makes the user eligible for a connected Post-Click experience.
The experience is applied during the user's current browser session, enabling you to present personalized website content that matches the message they engaged with.
A Post-Click experience:
- Is connected to a specific Reconnect campaign
- Is configured directly in the Reconnect canvas
- Is based on a Dynamic Yield Multi-Touch campaign
- Is limited to a single variation that can contain multiple touchpoints
- Can include up to 20 touchpoints
Each Post-Click experience can be connected to:
- A specific Reconnect variation
- Multiple Reconnect variations
- All variations within the Reconnect campaign
Variations that are not connected to a Post-Click experience continue to serve the default website experience.
Creating a Post-Click experience
Step 1: Add a Post-Click experience to the campaign
- Go to the Reconnect campaign that you want to enhance with a Post-Click experience, and make sure of the following:
- The campaign includes at least one message.
- The campaign is published or saved as a draft.
- In the Reconnect canvas, locate the Post-Click experience section and click Add.
A new browser tab opens with the Post-Click campaign editor.
Step 2: Configure the experience
The Post-Click editor uses the same concepts and workflows as Dynamic Yield Multi-Touch campaigns.
Create the touchpoints that users should see after arriving from your Reconnect message.
Note: Post-Click Experience supports all Multi-Touch campaign types except API campaigns.
Examples include:
- Dynamic Content
- Recommendations
- Visual Edit
- Overlay
- Notification
- Custom Code
You can add up to 20 touchpoints in the Post-Click variation.
Step 3: Save and activate
- After configuring your touchpoints, save the campaign. The campaign is saved as a draft.
- Change the campaign status to Active when ready.
Changes made in the Post-Click editor are automatically reflected in the Reconnect canvas.
Step 4: Select applicable reconnect variations
- Return to the Reconnect canvas.
- Using the variation selector on the Post-Click card, select whether the experience should apply to:
- A specific Reconnect variation
- All Reconnect variations
Users who click messages from the selected variations become eligible for the Post-Click experience.
Supported campaign structure
A Post-Click experience uses the Multi-Touch campaign structure and contains:
- One Post-Click variation
- Up to 20 touchpoints within that variation
While a Reconnect campaign can contain multiple variations, the Post-Click campaign always contains a single variation.
This design enables you to create a consistent post-click journey while controlling which Reconnect message variations activate it.
Campaign status behavior
Post-Click campaigns are managed independently of their parent Reconnect campaigns.
For example:
- A Reconnect campaign can be Active while its Post-Click campaign remains a Draft.
- A Post-Click campaign can remain Active even if the parent Reconnect campaign is a Draft or Paused.
Available Post-Click campaign statuses:
- Draft
- Active
Eligibility and session behavior
A user becomes eligible for a Post-Click experience only after clicking a message from a connected Reconnect campaign variation.
Important behavior rules:
- Eligibility begins when the user clicks the message.
- Eligibility lasts only for the current browser session.
- If the user starts a new browser session without clicking the message again, the Post-Click experience is no longer applied.
- Users who arrive through other traffic sources are not eligible.
Campaign priority
Post-Click campaigns inherit the same priority logic as Multi-Touch campaigns.
URLs and landing pages
When a Post-Click experience is connected to a Reconnect campaign, Dynamic Yield automatically adds a unique tracking parameter to links within the relevant Reconnect messages.
This process is automatic and requires no manual configuration.
The parameter is added to all URLs within the message, regardless of destination.
Reporting
Post-Click experiences have dedicated reports, similar to other Experience Web campaigns.
To view performance:
- In Experience Web, locate the Post-Click campaign.
- Open its campaign report.
Best practices
- Align the on-site experience with the message that drove the click.
- Reinforce urgency, offers, or product recommendations introduced in the message.
- Use multiple touchpoints to create a cohesive post-click journey.
- Review campaign reports regularly to understand the impact of post-click personalization on engagement and conversion.
