Global filtering rules enable you to define include or exclude criteria once, and then apply them across multiple Experience Email recommendation blocks. This reduces manual setup, ensures consistent merchandising logic, and helps maintain compliance across your account. Common use cases include excluding restricted products (for example, alcohol or tobacco), filtering out low-inventory items, and applying seasonal rules globally (for example, Black Friday promotions).
View and manage your global rules in the Global Rules tab. You can filter the view, and edit, archive, delete, or duplicate rules.
How global filtering rules work
Global filtering rules provide a centralized way to manage dynamic recommendation filtering. You define a rule in Experience Email, and it applies automatically to all existing and future recommendation blocks.
Available rule types:
- Include: Show only products that match the defined conditions.
- Exclude: Prevent products that match the defined conditions from appearing in recommendations.
When applied, global rules appear in each recommendation block's Filters section, marked with a Global Rule indicator.
Global rules follow the same evaluation logic as custom recommendation filters, but they are fixed and can't be reordered or reprioritized within recommendation blocks. Pin rules are not supported.
Create a global filtering rule
- In Experience Email › Global Rules tab, click Create a Global Rule.
- Name the rule, then select whether to apply it to all slots or selected slots. Click Next.
- Select the rule type (Include or Exclude), then define the conditions. The preview pane displays products that meet the filter conditions. Click Save.

Yes.
Can I reorder global rules?
No. Their position is fixed.
Can I delete a rule or temporarily disable it?
Yes. In the Global Rules tab, you can edit, pause, archive, or delete rules.
